Career change isn’t easy. Whatever stage you’re at, if you’re looking to change then you’re moving into the unknown, and a little guidance can be a lot of help.

Moving in

Entering the workforce for the first time is probably the biggest career change of all. You’re about to leave the educational system, where most people are engaged in your success, but unfortunately that’s not always the case in the workplace.

Moving up

Finding it hard to take a few steps up the ladder? You’re not alone. And sometimes no matter what you try, it never makes a difference. It could be time for a change in perspective, to help you along.

Moving on

A career change may be your choice, or it may be forced upon you, either way it can be a stressful enterprise. You might be frustrated with your existing direction, made redundant or facing retirement – whatever it is, I can help you make the transition to whatever’s next.

Career Coaching

From helping with your resume, and empowering you with valuable interview skills, to managing your transition into a new career, I can help you embark on this new chapter in life.

No matter how long you’ve been in a leadership position, there’s always room for improvement. In fact, sometimes we find ourselves leading teams, or organisations, through a natural progression up the ranks – only to discover we’re not as equipped for the job as we’d like to be.

Executive Leadership Coaching

Wherever you are on the scale, I can help you develop the skills to lead more effectively.

Heightened
awareness

If you’re fully aware of the affect your communication, and interaction style is having on your employees, you may well choose a different approach. This level of awareness comes naturally to some, but for most of us it takes a little help, to see what’s really going on.

Effective
communication

Once you’re aware of the influence your having on the workforce, you can adjust your style, language, and a host of trigger points to communicate more effectively. And when you can paint a better picture of the company’s vision and goals, you’ll find it easier to build meaningful relationships across the organisation, from entry level employees, to team members, executives and the board.

Increased employee motivation

Heightened awareness and communication skills can help you increase engagement, productivity and ultimately profitability in your organisation.Amongst many other activities, you’ll do this by acknowledging results and sharing the success of employees, creating an environment of community, with a common goal.

Wherever you are in your leadership journey, coaching can always help you become more effective.

If you’d like some help, from someone who’s worked at all levels in the corporate world, who’s navigated the waters well, and not so well on the odd occasion – then please give me a call.

If you’re an HR Manager, team leader or anyone responsible for the success of a team, there’s a wide variety of techniques and strategies available to use.

I’ve worked with most of them over the years, from Tuckman’s ‘forming, storming, norming and performing’ approach to Lencioni’s five dysfunctions, however I’ve found it’s the simplest approach, yet again, that tends to deliver the best results.

John Whitmore outlined his three stage model in ‘Coaching for Performance’.

Inclusion

People make a conscious decision to be part of a team, as opposed to a loose collection of employees gathered together in a group. They’re made to feel welcome, accepted and valued, and the team leader needs to set an example for others to follow.

Assertion

Team members jostle for position, carving out niches and establishing boundaries. Competition is high at this stage, and individual performance increases accordingly.

Cooperation

Finally the team is fully established, and everyone can get on with their jobs – pulling in the same direction and supporting each other when required.

The three stages are simple, direct and to the point, and the leader has a role at every stage, to encourage the desired behaviour and keep it all moving in the right direction.

I can help with all of this, however in reality, when we work together to examine the dynamics of your team, and determine the right approach – we’ll proceed with whatever strategy feels like it has the best fit, and the best chance of success.

Employee Coaching

An external perspective can be extremely important when developing employees skills, as they need to know the guidance they’re receiving is completely independent. This is true within stable environments, and especially so during intense periods of change.

As your career evolves, and you spend more time managing people, relationships and teams, emotional intelligence becomes increasingly important.

What is emotional intelligence?

It’s your ability to control your emotions. Managing what’s expressed and what’s hidden, in order to achieve more productive working relationships with all of those around you.

And the good thing is, it can be learned.

You can be taught how to acknowledge, but not engage in negative emotions in the workplace. How to encourage positive thinking. Stay calm under pressure. Not react to your emotional triggers and take a proactive approach to change.

There are many other elements that go into enhancing your emotional intelligence, and I’ve had experience with most of them, including Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, and Relationship Management.

So if your struggling with some of the important relationships in your workplace, perhaps I can help.

The FISH philosophy is an approach to employee engagement, happiness and productivity that emerged after an American filmmaker witnessed, and filmed, a close knit team at work selling fish in the Seattle fish markets.

They were so obviously enjoying themselves, and having fun, that customers were automatically drawn to their stall – and purchased lots of fish!

The Fish! Philosophy

Based on this example of a successfully operating business, full of happily engaged employees, an entire approach to the workplace was developed, tried and tested across a wide variety of industries.

It focuses on finding the deep source of energy, creativity and passion that exists inside all of us, and tries to draw that out in our work. Even if we’re not doing what we love, we can learn to love what we do.

I’ve worked with the Fish Philosophy on numerous occasions, and the real benefits include increased levels of teamwork and morale, leading to better customer service. By extension you’re also releasing the potential of your workforce and increasing employee retention.

If you’re looking to motivate, or re-energise your employees, it’s definitely worth considering.
